Pubs and Restaurants
Good food and drink are in abundance in this part of the world. From pub grub to Michelin Stars we have it all. With some of the best food and drink produced locally as well you can be sure to get a true taste of Merseyside when you visit Oaklea Barn Guest House. Here’s just a small selection of where to drink and dine right on our doorstep.
The Scotch Piper - Just across the road from Oaklea Barn Guest House is The Scotch Piper, known as the oldest Inn in Lancashire. To visit this traditional thatched inn is to step back into the past; It has retained the aire and most of its original structural features have been preserved. Built around an oak tree in the 14th century and known as 'The Royal Oak', until, as legend tells, an injured highland piper from the 1745 rebellion took refuge at the inn, he married the innkeeper's daughter, hence the change in name to 'The Scotch Piper'. Although food is not served you will find a great selection of fine wines and local beers, and you might be lucky enough to be served by Trevor, who locally is said to be "the last Druid in Lancashire!"
